APPLIED TRIM: Describes trim that is fastened onto the surface of the car's exterior.

APPLIQUÉ: Describes a custom-made decal applied to the body panel of a vehicle.

GRILLE: Describes a cross-work of bars usually fitted as a decorative cover for the radiator, allowing air access to cool the engine.

EGG-CRATE GRILLE: Describes a radiator grille with distinctive crisscrossing bars with gaps more or less square.

HOOD BADGE: Describes the emblem bearing the name or sometimes logo of the car manufacturer and the model usually secured to the front end of the hood, with some bolted or pasted flat to the front while others stand upright.

LOUVER: Describes the ventilation slots sometimes found in the hood of an automobile that allows air to come into the engine compartment to cool it.

LUGGAGE CARRIER: Describes a rack, usually chrome plated, often seen on classic sports cars bolted on top of the boot lid for carrying luggage or the spare wheel.

MUD FLAP: Describes a rubber shield positioned behind the car wheels (usually at the rear) to prevent mud and small rocks from being thrown up against the vehicle's body or at the following vehicle.

PORCELAIN ENAMEL: Describes a glossy material produced by melting a mixture of inorganic materials that can be applied in layers onto a metal surface; typical automotive applications are grille badges and specific articles of trim.

QUARTER BUMPER: Describes a type of shortened bumper designed to give a car a more sporting image, created by fixing short bumper sections around the left-hand and right-hand corners while leaving the centre unprotected.

REAR SPOILER: Describes an aerofoil mounted on the rear of the vehicle, typically made of shock-resistant polyurethane, effective for road holding when the car is being driven at high speed.  

REAR WINDOW LOUVRES: Describes a form of plastic moulding attached to the rear window to deflect sun rays and keep the interior cool.  Rear window louvres are usually hinged to facilitate easy window cleaning.

ROOF RACK: Describes a rack for holding luggage on the roof of a vehicle

RUNNING BOARD: Describes an extended flat footboard on either side of a vehicle that acts as a step for passengers common on larger pre-war vehicles.

SIDE SCOOP: Describes an air intake for the engine and cooling system found on mid-engine typified by Ferraris of the Fifties and Sixties.

VALLANCE: Describes a decorative panel used to conceal structural details or to provide extra protection.

VITREOUS ENAMEL: Describes a glassy material obtained by melting a mixture of inorganic materials firmly bonded in one or more layers on a metal surface to create emblems, badges and trim.

WING SHIELD: Describes a small curved panel, usually produced in transparent plastic or Perspex, placed in front of the driver and passenger's front side window designed to deflect wind and reduce draft when driving with the windows open.

WRAPAROUND BUMPER: Describes a modern bumper style that offers maximum protection of the body panels through extending around the front and rear of the body right up to the wheel cutouts.
