RAM INDUCTION: Describes using the forward momentum of a vehicle to gather up air and force it into the carburettor through an appropriate passageway.
RAM INTAKE MANIFOLD: Describes an intake manifold with very long passageways designed to facilitate fuel mixture entering the cylinders once the vehicle reaches a specific speed.
NEEDLE AND SEAT: Describes measuring items found in a carburettor, where the seat is a brass plug with a specially shaped hole to accommodate a needle - a shaft with a pointed end. When the needle is fully seated in the seat, no gasoline can enter the float bowl.
NON-STAGED CARBURETTOR: Describes a four-barrel carburettor fitted with secondary throttle plates that open simultaneously as the primary throttle plates.
PHENOLIC SPACER: Describes a base gasket from a thermosetting resin found in a carburettor to provided heat insulation between the carburettor and the intake manifold.
SIDEDRAUGHT CARBURETTOR: Describes a form of carburettor in which the air passes through the carburettor into the intake manifold in a horizontal plane.
STARTING CARBURETTOR: Describes various types of slide carburettors, all of which operate in parallel with the main carburettor acting as a starting aid.
SINGLE-BARREL CARBURETTOR: Describes a type of carburettor with a single throttle that opens from the carburettor to the intake manifold.
STAGED CARBURETTORS: Describes a category of carburettors equipped with a secondary system that can be activated either mechanically or through a vacuum diaphragm.
STROMBERG CARBURETTOR: Describes a type of variable venturi carburettor.
SUPERCHARGER: Describes an air compressor mounted between the carburettor designed to force air, under pressure, into the cylinder boosting engine power.
THROTTLE: Describes a type of device that controls the vacuum level created in the carburettor's venturi with the greater vacuum and richer fuel-air mixture.
THROTTLE ARM: Describes a lever used to actuate the vehicle's throttle.
THROTTLE BODY: Describes a type of housing located between the air cleaner and the intake plenum that contains a valve used to regulate airflow through the intake manifold.
THROTTLE BODY FUEL INJECTION: Describes a form of fuel injection where the injectors are located at the engine's throttle body, feeding fuel to the vehicle's cylinders routing air through the intake manifold.
THROTTLE BUTTERFLY: Describes a type of valve found in the carburettor's throat whose role is to regulate gasoline flow.
THROTTLE PEDAL: Describes a type of gas pedal used to operate the throttle butterfly through a series of linkages.
THROTTLE RETURN SPRING: Describes a type of spring that forces the throttle valve to remain closed when pressure is taken off the accelerator pedal
THROTTLE SHAFT: Describes the shaft where the throttle valve disc pivots in a carburettor barrel.
UPDRAUGHT CARBURETTOR: Describes a type of carburettor where the air passes upward through the carburettor into the intake manifold.
VARIABLE-VENTURI CARBURETTOR: Describes a type of carburettor characterised by its vacuum-operated piston that adjusts the cross-sectional area venturi and moves a jet needle in and out of a needle jet. Typical examples are the SU and Stromberg carburettors.
VOLUME CONTROL SCREW: Describes an adjusting screw that controls air/fuel mixture levels supplied by the idling circuit in a fixed jet carburettor.
WEBER CARBURETTOR: Describes a brand of carburettor famous for its adjustability. produced in Italy that is fitted on many high-performance vehicles, mainly from Germany and Italy as well as other European countries
WELCH PLUG: Describes a type of disk, concave in shape, used to plug a hole in a carburettor.
