DOWNFLOW RADIATOR: Describes the traditional type of vertical radiator, containing a header tank and bottom tank as well as a system of small tubes and cooling fins, with the hot water entering at the top and exiting at the bottom. The crossflow radiator has primarily replaced the downflow radiator.
DRAIN TAP: Describes a device that can control the flow of fluid from the cylinder block or the radiator's bottom.
EXPANSION TANK: Describes an item of equipment that comes into play when a car engine becomes heated, causing the coolant to expand, filling any available space (usually in the radiator). The expansion tank collects the coolant so that when the engine cools off, the resultant vacuum sucks the coolant from the tank back into the radiator.
FAN: Describes a rotating device with curved blades like a propeller that draws air through the radiator so that the coolant loses its heat through the radiator's fins. The primary fan in a vehicle is located behind the radiator, while some electric fans may be placed in front of the radiator
FAN BELT: Describes a flexible rubber belt that connects various components in the engine compartment, such as the air conditioner compressor, alternator, emission controls, power steering pump and water pump,
FAN BLADE: Describes a part of the fan that projects at an angle from the central hub, drawing air through the radiator
FAN CLUTCH: Describes a viscous (fluid) drive coupling device connected to the centre of the fan that will allow variable engine fan speeds relating to engine speeds according to the engine temperature through a thermostat
FAN COOLING: Describes a type of air cooling where a blower transports levels of air required for the cooling of the engine past the cooling fins, which in turn dissipate the heat stored in them to the current of air flowing past them
FAN PULLEY: Describes a pulley that sits on the hub of the radiator fan driving its belt.
FLUSHING: Describes the action of cleansing a system by sending water or other liquid through a system under pressure.
FLUSHING THE COOLING SYSTEM: Describes the process of circulating water through the cooling system under pressure to remove old coolant along with any dirt or rust.
FLUSHING OIL: Describes a thin oil used to clean out the sump, oil passageways, etc.
